Admissions Requirements:

A successful application for admission to Gordon gives evidence of strong academic promise and a decision to follow Christ. Other factors that contribute to an applicant's chances of accpetance include athletic experience, musical or dramatic experience, multi-cultural perspective or proven leadership ability in service to school, church and community.

Students are prepared for the curriculum at Gordon when they have successfully comp-leted courses in the following areas at the college proparatory level: English (4 years), mathematics (2 years), science (2 years, including at least one year of a laboratory science), social studies (2 years) and 5 courses of acceptable electives. Four years of foreign language is highly recommended.

Applicaton Plans

Students may select an application plan that will best meet their needs. Options may be discussed during the admissions interview before making this selection.

Regular Plan. Students who select a college by applying to a number of schools, including Gordon, should use this plan. Spring semester applicants must use the regular plan. Accepted students are encouraged to submit a deposit after receiving notification of admission and financial aid form all colleges to which they have applied.

Early Decision Plan. This plan is intended for students who have selected Gordon as their first choice for fall semester matriculation and who wish to save the time and expense of applying to "back-up" colleges. Their postive motivation to attend Gordon is taken into account, and tehir completed admissions and financial aid applications receive first consideration. Upon notification of acceptance, early decision applicants agree to withdraw any applications to other colleges. They are asked to submit a nonrefundable deposit of $150 as soon as possible or upon receipt of a financial award letter.

Early Admission. High school juniors showing unusual promise may apply after their midyear grades are recorded. The admissions decision is based on normal criteria, with particular emphasis placed on personal and social maturity.

Application Procedures

The following credentials are required for completing admissions and financial aid applications to Gordon. Gordon reserves the right to require additional application materials, should they be necessary, in order to make a sound admission decision. It is the students' responsibility to submit records of all academic courses in which they have enrolled.

Freshman Applicants

Required for admission: application, $40 nonrefundable application fee, high school transcript, SAT or ACT scores, personal reference and an admissions interview. Students who have had two or more years of a foreign language in high school are strongly recommended to submit Achievement Test scores for placement in Gordon's foreign language program. If scores are not reported, students must take placement tests on campus during the summer at GE II (Gordon Experience II). A minimum score of 400 (in French, German or Spanish achievement tests) will place the student in Beginning Language II; 500 in Intermediate Language; and 600 will validate Intermediate Language. A student who does not tkae the Achievement Test pior to enrollment must take a placement/validation test administered by the College's departmetn of Foreign Languages and Linguistics. Gordon's number for the Achievement Test is 3417. The College will grant advanced standing to applicants who have been enrolled in the Advanced Placement Program in high school, provided they received frades of 3 or better on their validation exams.

Transfer Applicants

Required for admission: application, $40 nonrefundable application fee, college transcript, college catalog for transfer credit evaluation, SAT or ACT scores, high school transcript if less than one collegiate academic year has been completed, personal reference and as admissions interview. Transfer students' transcripts are evaluated by the Registrar's Office and faculty. Tranfer credit will be granted for courses officially transcripted from an accredited institution provided such work is appropriate to degree requirements at Gordon and was completed with a grade of C minus or above. Giving credit for a course does not guarantee that the course will fulfill a major requirement. A cumulatice grade poitn average of 2.0 is required. Application of tranfer credit must be finalized by the end of teh first term at Gordon College. Pass/fail courses are not transferable without afficial validation that the minimum passing grade is a C. A student's Gordon cumulative grade point average is computed only on credits attempted in courses listed in the Gordon catalog.

International Applicants

Required for admission: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or SAT scores, foreign student financail aid form of the College Scholarhsip Service (CSS), a second personal reference from a school official in leiu of an admissions interview, all other regular admissions credentials. Canadian students may apply upon completion of grade 12 or 13, and should submit the Gordon College financial aid application in lieu of the foreign student financial aid form. Unusual of difficult to evaluate credentials may be sent to AACRAO's Foreign Credential Analysis Service if tranfer credit is desired. The applicant bears the cost of analysis.

Music Majors

Required for admission: An audition is required in addition to the regular admission requirements. Arrangements can be made through the Admissions Office of by contacting the chair of the Department of Music directly.

Home-Schooled Applicants

Home-schooled students should submit the following in lieu of a high school transcript: a description of the curriculum used, grade or progress reports, a list of required texts or readings and a report on experimental learning through field trips, special projects or extracurricular activities. All other regular admissions credentials must be submitted.
